Omphaloskepsis, meaning contemplation of one's navel, is one of my favorite words. I think that surviving graduate school requires a great deal of navel contemplation.
Recently, I have been more focused on Sawyer's navel than my own. His umbilical cord stump seemed determined to remain a part of him until adolescence. Yesterday, 5/5/08, it finally fell off and I could give him a real bath instead of a silly sponge bath. The bathroom sink was the perfect size tub for him.
Despite the fact that he *hates* being changed- he seemed very content with the bath and really enjoyed the post-bath massage.
