Best Rocking Horse Ever!

Check out Sawyer's rocking horse! This was a gift from great grandfather, Great Bumpa, who made it with a whole lot of love. Sawyer is absolutely thrilled with it! He is using his new found crawling skills to cross the house to get to it. Here are some pics!

Swings!

Sawyer is big and stable enough for bucket swings! What fun! Here are some pics of his first time in a swing at the park!We set up Sawyer's pup tent in the living room. For the last few weeks it has simply served as his toy box. Now that he has figured out that he can crawl into it. Now it is a den of happiness!Sawyer finally met our friend Maela. He really enjoyed spending time with her- he settled into her lap right away and seemed very content to sit with her.

Chew Chew Chew - Whoozit

Sawyer has been enjoying his Cheerios a great deal. Here is a little video of our oatmeal and Cheerio mess.

One of Sawyer's favorite toys is his Whoozit. Our friend Kim had great insight when she gave it to him. Thanks Kim! Here he is enjoying it from head to toe!

We were lucky enough to see our friends David and Kanisha, who visited from Seattle. We finally got to meet their little boy, Devin. Sawyer gravitated to David right away. Here is a shot of David with Sawyer and Devin.

Off to the races!

It is official. At exactly 6 1/2 months, Sawyer started crawling. For the last week he has made a pace or two at a time, usually flopping onto his belly. Now he has linked these paces together.

I couldn't get the video to upload here- so I put it on YouTube!

Since this video, he has started going on quests... all the way across the living room.

In other news, Sawyer went to his 6 month appointment a couple weeks late (because of vaccination scheduling)- at 6.5 months he is 18.1 lbs and 27" tall. That puts him in the 60th percentile for weight and the 70th percentile for height.

He continues to be happy and healthy and an utter joy!

Like a babbling brook

One of my favorite things these days is listening to Sawyer babble. He has added so many sounds to his repertoire including "wa," "ka," "de," and "ak."

Unfortunately, he is beginning to get a little hesitant around new faces and he certainly isn't inclined to chat much in the company of strangers. He has also become more vigilant about my whereabouts- making sure he knows where I am.

Here are two short videos of him chatting it up.

Rubber Ducky, You're the One!

Sawyer recently switched to his rubber ducky bath tub. I absolutely love it... and he seems to enjoy it too!

Fall Days

Fall is really upon us. I pulled out the bunting for Sawyer's stroller the other day so we can continue to enjoy the fall color on our walks. Snuggly happiness.

This weekend was cold and wet. I took the opportunity to make Sawyer a new mobile for his room. We have needed something to distract him on the changing table... he flips over so fast we have to practically wrestle him and pin him down to get him changed! Luckily, this jungle mobile seems to be helping... for the moment.

6 Months

Sawyer turned 6 months on Friday, October 3rd. That night, we went out to dinner with Jurgen and Kendra -- Sawyer sat in a restaurant high chair for the first time. He was very proud.
At 6 months, he is over 18 lbs! He is crawling backwards and making real strides toward crawling forwards.

Today, Sunday, he sat up all on his own. For weeks he has been trying to sit up by trying to simply sit straight up, which has been unsuccessful but has resulted in some strong abs, I think. He has finally figured out he has to roll over, push up, and plop onto his bottom (though still no footage of the feat). We are also happy to report that he is sleeping really well: most nights he sleeps 8 or 9 hours in the first stretch and then 3 or 2 more hours before waking up around 6:30 or 7am. I think I am slowly beginning pay back the sleep debt I have accumulated over the last 6 months.

Sawyer is also beginning to take a little bit of formula, which has been a major relief to me, as until two weeks ago he was still nursing 7 times a day. Now he is taking two bottles a day and nursing 4 times a day. He is still eating solids well. He is enjoying fruit now, including pears, apples, and bananas. He is also beginning to feed himself Cheerios- though he usually only gets one of 20 into his mouth. He is great at picking the Cheerios up- even using his thumb and forefingers, he just struggles getting his fingers to continue to cooperate when he tries to get it into his mouth.

Uncle Jurgen and Auntie Kendra

My brother and sister-in-law visited over the weekend. We enjoyed their visit and Sawyer enjoyed meeting his uncle and auntie.

We made yummy pizzas including a fig, goat cheese, and basil pizza. Kendra and Sawyer took some time to engage in a detailed discussion comparing the virtues of Mission vs. Calimyrna figs.

Fall Flying

In the last week or so, Sawyer has begun to tolerate and actually enjoy some high flying. He reminds me of a little flying potato.

Here are some other recent pics.
