morning baby

I usually bring Sawyer to bed between 5 and 6 in the morning. He snacks and hangs out while we try to get just a little more shut-eye. His happy morning demeanor, however, usually provokes tickles instead...

Sawyer doesn't really like spending time on his belly. So to help him strengthen his neck muscles, he spends some time flying. ...

more practice

Even though he cannot sit up yet, Sawyer seems intent on practicing standing.

First day of summer

The pediatrician *strongly* advocated sunglasses for Sawyer. With the clarity of an infant's retinas, UV exposure due to our altitude is a recipe for cataracts. We followed doctor's orders and this is the result:
We took the boy for a nice walk on the first day of summer at Camp Dick/Pleasant Valley.
Dezi appreciated the cold mountain waters.

And the mountain flowers are all coming out spectaularly!

Hands

Sawyer's hands have gotten pretty busy. Sometimes he just clasps them together and stares at them. Mostly, he works on manipulating small toys he picks up or we hand him. He is working on getting it all to his mouth but is only sometimes successful- that doesn't mean that he doesn't drool in anticipation!

Sometimes his hands are quiet and peaceful.

Bowl 'o Baby

Here is our Bowl 'o Baby. Dan has been working on the lathe- making bigger and better bowls- perfect for baby soup.

The little guy is really getting interested in the world and wants to see it from new angles.. When you pull him up into a sitting position, he engages his legs and pushes right up into a standing position.
He is also beginning to find a way to get anything and everything into his mouth...

And when he isn't so happy, he gives us the lip.

June 9th, 2008 ** Happy Birthday, Omi! **

We want to wish Omi a very happy 65th birthday! Unfortunately, she is out of the country and we can't call her. Here's hoping she checks in on us here!

Sawyer and I worked in the garden and thought of you.

Happy Birthday Mom! Wish we could celebrate with you!

love,
hannah, dan, and sawyer

Month 2

On June 3rd, Sawyer hit the two month mark. The last two weeks have been amazing. As soon as he hit the 6 weeks mark, things began to change very quickly.

He has added 'buh' and 'duh' to his vocabulary and begun to put two syllables together- usually saying 'a-boo,' 'a-poo,' and 'a-wuw.'

The changing table is no longer a place of terror, in fact he seems to have decided he loves the extra attention he gets there and babbles and smiles a lot.

He is beginning to grab and hold small plush toys and has begun batting at the toys hanging from the arches on his activity mat.

It looks like he is going to be a blue-eyed boy- which is probably no surprise to the Smith clan. He lost a lot of his hair but has already begun to get it back- though it doesnt look like he will be the tow head we predicted- his hair is a reddish brown- a lot like Dan's.

He went to the doctor yesterday for his two month check-up and his first big round of immunizations. He weighed in at 11 lbs 8 oz and was 22 3/4" long. That puts him at the 55th percentiles for height and weight.

Expressive baby faces

I have been amazed by Sawyer's facial expressions. Here is a series of photos I took- all within a minute or two.
